IT House News on August 4, according to CCTV News, on August 3, local time, at the 46th International Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) Scientific Conference held in Florence, Italy, researcher Wang Jinsong of the China Meteorological Administration won the William Nordberg Medal. IT Home Note: COSPAR is an important international academic organization under the International Council for Science. The William Nordberg Medal is one of the important scientific awards established by COSPAR and is awarded every two years, starting in 2022, to two scientists per session. This year’s other recipient is David Siebeck, NASA’s chief scientist for heliophysics. The William Nordberg Medal is awarded to the recipients for their outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of space science applications. Since the medal was established in 1988, Wang Jinsong is the first Chinese scientist to win this honor, and he has also been named an asteroid at the same time. This award shows that my country's research results in the field of space science and applications have been highly recognized by the international academic community. Wang Jinsong is currently the director of the National Satellite Meteorological Center (National Space Weather Monitoring and Early Warning Center) and the chief designer of the Fengyun Meteorological Satellite Project. He presided over the creation of my country's national space weather business system and promoted the sustainable development and global application of Fengyun meteorological satellites. He took the lead in achieving systematic technological breakthroughs in high-precision solar imaging on non-directional platforms, large-field auroral imaging, wide-spectrum omnidirectional particle detection, and strong-background weak-signal airglow detection. He proposed new mechanisms and methods for understanding and simulating the coupling of the sun-terrestrial system, and led the development of my country's first-generation space weather numerical prediction system and the world's first space weather chain forecast artificial intelligence model "Fengyu". He innovatively proposed the "three-element five-level" architecture of the satellite performance system, which became a new theoretical framework for Fengyun meteorological satellite development planning, design, development and application services; he presided over breakthroughs in multi-satellite collaborative space-time agile observation, real-time processing of massive heterogeneous satellite and ground resources and other technologies, and for the first time realized Fengyun meteorological satellite's efficient collaborative observation scheduling and minute-level intelligent online services. With the joint efforts of Wang Jinsong and his team, my country’s space weather business has achieved
