OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Classic will be decommissioned on January 30, 2027. Recently, OpenAI is advancing the ChatGPT desktop application integration plan. According to the notification received by users, the old version of the ChatGPT Classic application will officially cease service on January 30, 2027. Users' complete chat records will be migrated to the new version of the application, and they can continue to access previous conversations. Earlier this year, OpenAI launched a new desktop application integrating ChatGPT, Work and Codex, and renamed the original application ChatGPT Classic. In the early days of the new version of the application, it caused user controversy due to the use of Electron to replace the native macOS application, as well as the complex interface and unclear function entry. Subsequently, OpenAI adjusted the interaction design, restored the "Chat" and "Work" switching entrance at the top, and optimized the switching method between ChatGPT and Codex. At the same time, OpenAI plans to launch a small-scale test in the next few weeks to integrate the ChatGPT conversation function and Work’s advanced task execution capabilities into the same interface. Users will be able to complete the entire process from ideation to execution within one platform, including importing files, using plug-ins, creating websites, making presentations and performing other network tasks, and can review and guide the work of AI. Codex will still run independently in the desktop app. In addition, OpenAI also plans to introduce shared usage quotas for ChatGPT and Codex to replace the previous independent quota mechanisms. The quota consumption will change dynamically according to the complexity of the model and task. Advanced models and complex tasks consume more quota, while the unlimited instant use within the package does not occupy the quota. This move means that OpenAI is further promoting the transformation of the desktop from a chat tool to an integrated AI task execution platform. via AI News (author: AI Base)
