Claude has grown "economic tentacles": you can ask in one sentence which jobs are being rewritten by AI. Anthropic has connected a new data pipeline to its own chat robot Claude. At the other end of this pipeline is the "economic index" that Anthropic has accumulated for a long time - a huge database that records what people are doing with AI in the real world. Now, anyone who uses Claude.ai can just ask "Which professions use AI the most" in the dialog box like asking a colleague, and the answer will come directly from this index, rather than a seemingly reasonable sentence made up by the model out of thin air. This function, named Anthropic Economic Index connector, was officially launched on July 23. It doesn’t pick a model. No matter which Claude you are driving or in which conversation, it can be enabled at any time, and there is no need to install any plug-ins or extensions. Open the connector menu on the left side of Claude.ai, find "Anthropic Economic Index" in the directory and click on it. In about a minute, these "eyes" will open. The index itself is the yardstick used by Anthropic to measure how artificial intelligence is used in the real economy. In the past, these figures mainly served researchers, journalists and policymakers; now Anthropic obviously wants to put them into the pockets of ordinary people - as long as you are curious about "will AI touch the cheese of my department", you can look through the data yourself. Usage is very natural. You can start with a broad question, such as asking "What does this index say about my industry?" and then follow the clues to dig into the details; or you can directly ask a specific scenario: What do people in Colorado love to do with Claude? What tasks do teachers usually ask AI to help complete? How have the types of tasks people turn to AI automation changed over the past year? Claude will give you the answer, and will also take the initiative to show you the original data supporting the answer. It should be noted that this mirror only reflects Claude’s own usage habits, rather than a panoramic view of the entire labor market. Anthropic specifically reminded when it was released that the index reflects how people using Claude work and does not represent the general ledger of all AI tools. So before you draw conclusions from the data, Claude will guide you to look back at the source data and its limitations - which samples are out of reach, and which conclusions need to be questioned.
