Anthropic announced on October 21 the launch of Claude Duet, an AI agent that proactively manages tasks across connected applications. It is currently available as a research preview to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, with invites issued in batches through a waiting list. There is no charge for this feature, but it will count towards the usage cap of existing plans, including work performed in the background; Anthropic noted that this may allow users to reach the cap "faster than using conversations alone." Giving instructions like sending a message to a real person Anthropic describes how Claude Duet can be used like sending a message to a real person: the user can type or record a voice to explain the need, and the agent will execute it in the connected application and notify the user when something needs to be handled. The main conversation thread is concentrated in one place, so agents can continue their progress; users can also set up independent channels for different topics, and each channel shares the same memory. It follows the memory, skills and connectors of the general Claude, and can search past conversations to reduce repeated explanations by users. Anthropic said Claude Duet is designed to ask users before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting any content. Cloud computer supports background execution. Claude Duet runs on your own cloud computer. Even if the user closes the application, he can still continue working. Every morning, it will check the user's email and calendar, select the most important items, and start the first step, such as drafting a reply for the user to review; during the day, it will send progress updates on ongoing work and follow up on silenced conversations. For larger jobs, users simply describe their needs and the agent determines which applications are needed and how much work is required. Larger results are returned as files that can be viewed and edited, such as research presentations, financial models, presentation slides, or dashboards, and the completed work is displayed in the Make tab. Claude Duet also supports plug-ins, such as small business plug-ins, and will recommend suitable plug-ins according to the user's work; for
