According to Kuai Technology News on August 15, Nvidia submitted a 13F document to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Friday local time, disclosing for the first time its holdings of approximately 122.8 million Class A shares of SpaceX, with a position value of approximately US$21 billion as of the end of the second quarter. According to FactSet data, Nvidia has become the sixth largest shareholder of SpaceX. Interestingly, this stake was not purchased directly by Nvidia. According to people familiar with the matter, Nvidia invested US$10 billion in Musk’s xAI’s US$20 billion financing round in January this year. As a result, SpaceX and xAI merged in February, with the combined entity valued at US$1.25 trillion, and Nvidia's xAI equity was converted into SpaceX equity. Looking at it from another perspective, Nvidia originally wanted to invest in an AI company, but suddenly became a shareholder of Rocket Company. However, the return on this investment is considerable. Although SpaceX's stock price has fallen from US$170.86 at the end of June to US$140 at Friday's closing, and the current value of Nvidia's position has also shrunk to approximately US$17.2 billion, the floating profit compared to the original investment is still in the billions of dollars. In addition to capital binding, the business bundling of the two companies is also deepening. Musk promised at SpaceX's first earnings call earlier this month that SpaceX's AI data center will be built entirely based on NVIDIA systems in the future. "We think the Vera Rubin architecture is the best architecture and the best AI computer, so we only cooperate with NVIDIA." He also predicts that SpaceX will obtain a "large quota" of NVIDIA's Vera Rubin GPU next year. The two parties have launched the joint research and development project "Starmind AI1" satellite computing payload. In response to Musk's public support, Huang Jen-Hsun publicly supported Musk in a recent interview, saying that he is in an "excellent position" in the AI competition with his computing infrastructure, real-world data and three major business layouts: xAI, autonomous driving and Optimus robots.
