Microsoft is taking drastic steps to streamline its AI business: merging Copilot applications and cutting off many unpopular features. Microsoft has recently made major adjustments to its artificial intelligence strategy, announcing that it will fully merge the consumer-side and business-side Copilot applications and eliminate many AI features that have failed to achieve expected results. This move not only reflects the increasingly blurred boundaries between personal and professional scenarios in AI applications, but also declares that Microsoft's past too cumbersome product layout needs to be changed to better compete with competing products such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. According to relevant support documents, a number of consumer-side features will be officially offline on August 18, including group chat features, AI-generated podcasts, Copilot Labs experimental features, and in-depth research. However, paid professional users will receive corresponding alternatives through the Researcher function in the future. In addition, Microsoft also decided to withdraw the previously controversial virtual animated character called Mico. During the transition period, files generated by the standalone Copilot app will be automatically migrated to OneDrive. The core goal of this streamlining is to create a simpler and consistent user experience. Microsoft has recently emphasized that various functions must truly win the value of users' existence in daily life and resolutely discard ineffective modules. In the current context of major technology companies integrating AI applications, Microsoft is optimizing resources by streamlining its architecture and seeking to gain a foothold in the fierce market competition. via AI News (author: AI Base)
