According to fast technology news on October 18, TSMC Chairman Wei Zhejia attended the launch of the new book "Come Up with a Solution" by Hu Zhengming, an academician of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan and former TSMC Chief Technology Officer, and shared his experience of writing a preface with ChatGPT. He joked that he had been nervous for a while in preparation for the performance briefing. He knew the stock would fall, but it did, so he was "in a very bad mood" and just came to the book launch to relieve himself. Wei Zhejia humorously said that the more AI is used, the more tokens will be used, and the more chips are needed, "this will help TSMC's business." Hu Zhengming, known as the "father of three-dimensional transistors", once led a team to develop fin transistors (FinFET). TSMC founder Zhang Zhongmou established the position of chief technology officer for Hu Zhengming in 2001; "Come up with a solution" was originally an inscription on a crystal plaque given to Hu Zhengming by Zhang Zhongmou to remind him of his work tasks. Hu Zhengming revealed in the book that Zhang Zhongmou gave him two long-term tasks at that time: first, to transform TSMC from a technology follower to a technology leader; second, to balance TSMC's income and expenditure on intellectual property rights. Wei Zhejia recommended the preface for Hu Zhengming's new writing. He said that it was an honor to write the preface for this book, but he was shocked when he saw the title was "Come up with a solution" and was overwhelmed with pressure because he also got the same sign. "When your boss tells you to come up with a solution, it means you have no solution." Wei Zhejia mentioned in the recommendation preface that he had read Hu Zhengming’s research on the reliability of semiconductor components when he was a student. The real opportunity to get to know Hu Zhengming was after he joined TSMC as chief technology officer. I was fortunate to stand at the scene of the development of the semiconductor industry and saw with my own eyes that Hu Zhengming sown the seeds and they blossomed and bore fruit many years later.
