IT House reported on August 22 that CNBC published a blog post yesterday (August 21), reporting that in Anthropic’s initial public offering (IPO) prospectus, the American public’s resistance to artificial intelligence was listed as a key risk factor. According to reports, during an "exploratory pitch" meeting in San Francisco, Anthropic Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao was repeatedly asked about competitive issues, margin pressure from the open source model, and the possible impact of a slowdown in data center construction. IT Home quoted a blog post as saying that, like its competitor OpenAI, Anthropic is pushing infrastructure partners to speed up construction in order to meet market demand for advanced models and new services. The tech industry's hyperscalers have invested hundreds of billions of dollars in capital expenditures this year to build data centers and procure the graphics processors needed to populate those facilities. But public attitudes did not support the expansion. A Gallup survey released in May showed that 70% of Americans opposed the construction of artificial intelligence data centers in their regions, with nearly half of the respondents "strongly opposed"; about 25% of respondents expressed support. According to a Heatmap News survey, 75% of Americans now oppose the construction of data centers near their homes, with 61% “strongly opposed.” A year ago, approval and disapproval were nearly even, at 43% and 42%, respectively.
