Built-in 16 top-level GPUs! NVIDIA rents a wall-mounted computing power center: install it for 0 yuan and get dividends

Kuai Technology reported on August 22 that Nvidia plans to install top-level computing equipment worth more than $250,000 on the exterior walls of users’ houses for free, directly transforming ordinary houses into micro AI data centers. It has currently launched a distributed computing pilot project called XFRA in specific communities. The core of the project is to provide selected residents with a set of wall-mounted computing modules free of charge. The module integrates 16 of the latest Blackwell architecture graphics cards and 4 server processors. The market value of the entire set of hardware exceeds US$250,000 (approximately 1.785 million yuan). In terms of hardware form, this computing module is about the same size as an ordinary household air conditioner, but its internal structure is extremely complex. In order to suppress the huge heat generated when 16 top-level GPUs are running, the system is equipped with a dedicated liquid cooling device. Owners can install this million-dollar computing node on the exterior wall of their home without paying any upfront costs. Not only that, NVIDIA and its partners have also promised to significantly subsidize participants' electricity and Internet bills. The computing power income generated during the operation of these wall-mounted computing modules will also be shared with the owners according to an as-yet-undisclosed ratio. Simply put, this is equivalent to Nvidia renting your walls and power systems to run AI tasks and paying rent for them. At present, the pilot project is limited to about 100 households, and most of them are concentrated in newly built smart communities. If the commercial feasibility is verified, this wall-mounted computing module may become a standard facility in more residences, just like solar panels. However, the popularization of distributed computing still faces many uncertainties. Although the system is set to operate during low power periods at night or with photovoltaic surplus power, it is still unknown whether the home circuit can withstand the peak power consumption generated by 16 Blackwell graphics cards instantly.
