IT House reported on August 16 that according to the Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter revealed that Nvidia and OpenAI are about to reach an agreement on the financing of a hyperscale data center park in Ohio, but the two parties have adjusted the transaction structure: For this planned construction project worth hundreds of billions of dollars, Nvidia will initially provide guarantees for only half of it, rather than the full guarantee. Some people familiar with the matter said that the revised plan will reduce Nvidia’s financial guarantee scale from US$250 billion (IT House note: the current exchange rate is approximately 1.69 trillion yuan) to less than US$120 billion (the current exchange rate is approximately 810.678 billion yuan). The move is in response to investor concerns about the chip company's risk exposure - Nvidia is using its balance sheet to drive demand for its AI chips. The deal is expected to be officially signed as soon as this weekend. After the Wall Street Journal first disclosed news of the US$250 billion (approximately 1.69 trillion yuan at current exchange rate) guarantee plan, Nvidia's stock price fell 5% that day. According to the program framework currently being negotiated, NVIDIA will provide financing guarantees for the first phase of the project (total power of approximately 5 GW), and will later decide whether to provide financing for the remaining part and the specific financing method. OpenAI is still advancing negotiations and plans to sign a binding lease for 10 gigawatts of the project's capacity in the coming days, two project sources said. SB Energy, a subsidiary of Japan's SoftBank, is responsible for developing this 10-gigawatt data center. Once completed, the project will become the largest data center project announced in the world to date. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that the first phase of the guarantee will cover the data center rent and debt required for construction, reducing the project's borrowing costs by enhancing lenders' confidence in the safety of project funds. In addition, NVIDIA is also negotiating another independent agreement to provide financing for OpenAI’s chip procurement; the total chip procurement for the entire project is expected to reach US$350 billion (approximately 2.36 trillion yuan at the current exchange rate
