Cornell University mathematician Alex Townsend and Washington University mathematics professor Anne Greenbaum published an article publicly disclosing their email exchanges with the Chinese doctor, making this breakthrough result known to the public. Townsend and Greenbaum said they, as well as the French mathematician Michel Crouzeix, who proposed the conjecture, had reviewed the manuscript and confirmed that the proof was correct. Jin Shanmu’s academic background is far from mathematics. Baidu Encyclopedia shows that his undergraduate degree was in geology from Peking University. In 2016, he entered the geology major through independent enrollment (gaokao score 622 points, Peking University admission score 660 points). After participating in the geological expedition to the Southern Alps in 2019, he transferred to clinical medicine through the "4+4 Pilot Class" of the Union Medical College in 2020 and became a postdoctoral fellow in neurosurgery in 2024.
